Curfew lifted in Jaffna

 
A curfew imposed over decades in Jaffna was permanently lifted with effect from yesterday, defense officials said.

"In consideration of the improved security situation in the region it has been decided to completely lift the curfew in Jaffna. It will not be reimposed", Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said.

Curfew had been enforced in the Jaffna peninsula from time to time and at present it is effective from 12 midnight to 4.00 in the morning.
