Govt to launch massive condominium project

Government is to launch a massive 600,000 unit housing project this year fulfilling the housing need of the country.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa addressing a group of vocational and technical students at Temple Trees on January 1 said, a mass scale condominium project which had been already drafted will solve the housing problem of the country and skilled Sri Lankan manpower will be used in the project.

Government could not go for massive housing projects during the past four years due to the war on terrorism, the President said.

President also stated that the Vocational Training Authority was established under the People’s Alliance Government as the demand for skilled workers in foreign countries was increasing.

Peace and development go hand in hand. One cannot reach development target if there is no peaceful environment in the country. Having realized that my government had taken steps to upgrade infrastructure facilities at the grass root level, stated the president
