Banners of Prabhakaran removed in Chennai

Three digital banners in Chennai, India carrying pictures of slain LTTE leader Prabhakaran were removed by Chennai authorities on Saturday.

The pictures showed the LTTE leader interacting with Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi party’s General Secretary, Thol Tirumavalavan, reports India’s Express Buzz.

The banners were removed after representatives of the Makkal Thalaivar Ayya, G K Moopanar Peravai urged Commissioner of Police to take action against them.

The vinyl boards were erected by the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi in different parts of the city ahead of a book release function in which poems penned by Tirumavalavan are slated for release, Express Buzz further reports.

According to L K Venkat, President of the Peravai, the controversial banners were put up near Ashok Nagar police station, Kodambakkam Power House and Valluvar Kottam. Demanding stern action against those responsible for erecting the banners, he stated in his police complaint that Prabhakaran was the leader of LTTE, a banned organization in India. He also sought a ban on the book release function.

Venkat said the police removed the banners in a couple of hours after the issue was taken up with the Police Chief, stated the Express Buzz.
