President
reminds UN of protocol |
|
|
|
The
United
Nations
has to
inform
the Sri
Lankan
Government
before
issuing
statements
since
Sri
Lanka is
also a
member
of the
United
Nations
and is
an
independent
country,
said
President
Mahinda
Rajapaksa
addressing
officials
and
members
of the
Sanasa
Bank of
the
Matara
District
in
Medamulana
yesterday
(Jan 7).
Based on
General
(Rtrd)
Fonseka's
statement
that Sri
Lankan
Forces
attacked
certain
LTTE
leaders
when
they
came to
surrender
to the
Security
Forces
with
white
flags, a
certain
UN
official
is about
to make
a
statement,
the
President
said
yesterday.
The
President
further
said
that no
UN
official
has the
right to
express
their
own
views
since
Sri
Lanka is
an
independent
country.
He said
that he
is quite
confident
of the
valiant
Security
Forces
personnel
who
completed
the duty
which
was
entrusted
by the
people
since
everyone's
desire
was to
have a
terror
free
country
eradicating
the
ruthless
LTTE
terrorism,
reported
Daily
News.
"We have
confidence
that our
brave
security
personnel
haven't
been
involved
in any
misconduct…
Our
Forces
are
among
the best
disciplined
Forces
in the
world…
As a
result
of
Fonseka's
statement
our
security
officers
are in
danger.
They
could be
taken
into
custody
while
they are
abroad,"
the
President
stressed.
Fonseka
has
agreed
to
fulfil
various
demands
of the
TNA when
both
parties
have
come to
an
agreement.
According
to the
agreement,
Fonseka
has
agreed
to the
TNA
request
to
remove
of High
Security
Zone in
the
North
and
East,
giving
self
controlling
power,
setting
free all
LTTE
suspects
who are
now in
custody
disregarding
their
brutal
terrorist
activities
and many
more
conditions
which
will not
be
country
friendly,
the
President
pointed
out.
Sri
Lanka is
an
independent
republic.
The
Government
has
fulfilled
the
public
expectations
bringing
the
country
under
one flag
while
eradicating
LTTE
terrorism
which
brought
much
sorrow
and
devastations
for over
three
decades,
quoting
the
President,
Daily
News
reported.
