60 - 65 % cast postal votes on first day

 

Between 60 - 65 per cent of the total eligible postal voters had cast their votes for the Presidential Election by noon yesterday (Jan.12), election monitors said.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that he is grateful to the patriotic state sector employees and Security Forces personnel for casting their votes with the vision of safeguarding the national interest.

Casting of postal votes for the upcoming presidential election commenced yesterday (Jan.12) morning and it will continue until this evening.

According to the Election Secretariat, there are 401,119 eligible postal voters. 57,036 applications were rejected.

The Elections Secretariat has made arrangements for those who are unable to cast their votes on these days to do so before noon on January 26, the day of the Presidential poll.
