Banners and cutouts for immediate removal - President instructs IGP

 

The Secretary to the President, Mr. Lalith Weeratunga has instructed the Inspector General of Police, Mahinda Balasooriya to remove all posters, banners and cutouts on display that have a direct bearing on the presidential election.

Recalling the instructions given by the President in this regard, the Secretary has urged the IGP to take immediate steps to remove all campaign displays.

The Secretary has also informed the Elections Commissioner that the President through him has drawn the urgent attention of the IGP with regard to the immediate removal of banners, posters and cutouts.

President Rajapaksa ordered the IGP to remove display materials bearing his image even before the date of nomination.

The Election Commissioner requested the secretaries of all parties contesting the forthcoming election to remove all poll related materials on display by January 07.
