Japan assists fishing industry

 

Women in the fishing industry will receive advanced technological equipment to ease their works in the production of dried fish. This project is assisted by Japan.

The women, who used to dry fish in the scorching sun, will be provided new equipment to dry the fish. They will also be trained to handle this sophisticated equipment and also be given knowledge on marketing.

The project titled "Economic Empowerment of Women through Increased Dry Fish Production" has received Rs.4.7 million initially. It kicked off from the Matara District with a provision of 20 ovens to ensure quality control.

The project will be expanded to Mannar, Vavuniya, Jaffna, Batticaloa and Trincomalee Districts at a cost of Rs.103 million.
