Moderate Canadian Tamils pledge support to President

 

A moderate Tamil group in Canada has pledged its fullest support to President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the forthcoming Presidential election.

The Canadian Tamils for Peace and Democracy, a civil rights group comprising of Sri Lankan Tamils living in Canada requests their brethren in Sri Lanka to follow its path to strengthen the hands of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to take forward the task of not only defeating terrorism in the North and East but also to strengthen democracy by developing the Provinces economically and socially which are interconnected with peace and political stability in the country.

The most recent confirmation of support came from the Executive Committee of CatPad, during their meeting held on January 12, 2010 and ratified its support to the strong leadership given by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to eradicate terrorism and restore democracy in the North and East of Sri Lanka.

"We urge our Tamils in the North and East, to support a courageous leader who stood up for democracy for the Tamils and for all Sri Lankans", the group said in a statement.
