forthcoming Presidential election |

Returning
Officers
island-wide
are
making
all
necessary
arrangements
to
conduct
a free
and fair
Presidential
election
on
January
26, the
Election
Secretariat
sources
said.
The
Secretariat
has
completed
the
election
official
selection
process
and the
selected
officials
are
receiving
training
now on
election
duties.
All
propaganda
activities
for the
Presidential
election
must end
at
midnight
next
Saturday
(Jan
23), the
Secretariat
said,
adding
that the
police
are
entrusted
in
maintaining
law and
order.
An
identity
card is
mandatory
to vote
at the
Presidential
election
and the
issuance
of
temporary
identity
cards
will
continue
until
next
Thursday
(Jan
21).
Applications
for
temporary
identity
cards
can be
obtained
from
Grama
Niladharis
or
Estate
Superintendents
and need
to be
submitted
to
relevant
officials
before
next
Thursday.
Those
who have
applied
for
identity
cards
and did
not
receive
them yet
must
also
apply
for a
temporary
identity
card.
Meanwhile,
distribution
of
official
poll
cards
ended
yesterday.
Voters
who have
not yet
received
their
official
poll
cards
could
obtain
them
from the
nearest
Post
Office,
the Post
Master
General
said.
