Politicians should be disciplined to lead younger generation - President

President Mahinda Rajapaksa said he has the responsibility of leading the younger generation on the correct path and the politicians should exercise utmost discipline at all times.

The President was addressing a massive election rally at Dambulla yesterday (Jan 19).

He stressed that political leaders should be more disciplined in their words. “There is no use of bringing development to the country, if our younger generation lacks basic moral values,” the President said.

President Rajapaksa also said that he is not prepared to betray the country for an election and vowed to defeat all forces which are attempting to divide the country after it was liberated from terrorists eight months ago.

He said the people in Dambulla underwent several hardships due to terrorism and they will never allow to reverse the achievement gained by the country.

He said the country was in tatters when he came into power four years ago. The President stressed he made use of executive powers to abolish the illegal agreement signed by terrorist leader V. Prabhakaran and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.

“The people of this land entrusted me with the task of freeing the country from terrorism and I won their confidence by fulfilling what was expected of me", said the President. He stressed he will never breach the trust placed by the people in him under any circumstances.
