UN Chief calls for violence free election

 

The Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-Moon appealed to all parties in Sri Lanka and their supporters to show restrain and refrain from violence, to adhere to the electoral laws and rules and avoid proactive acts throughout the election period and its aftermath.

"The peaceful conduct of the first post-conflict election is of the highest importance for long term peace and reconciliation in Sri Lanka," the UN Secretary said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
