The
United
States
commended
the
people
of Sri
Lanka
for
their
spirited
participation
in the
democratic
process
to elect
the
country's
sixth
Executive
President.
Responding
to
queries
on Sri
Lanka's
presidential
election
held
Tuesday
at the
State
Department
daily
press
briefing,
the
Assistant
Secretary
of State
Philip
Crowley
said the
US
commend
the
people
of Sri
Lanka
for a 72
percent
turnout.
"That is
something
that is
truly
remarkable,"
he said.
He said
that the
election
was a
spirited
one and
there is
nothing
that
would
call
into
question
the
results.
