In view of the 62nd Independence Day celebrations and "Deyata Kirula" exhibition, security will be enhanced in Kandy throughout the period, said Senior DIG Gamini Navaratne.

A contingent of 3,000 policemen will be on duty during the celebrations on February 4 while a contingent of 8,000 policemen will be on duty during the Deyata Kirula exhibition period, the DIG further stated.

In addition, a contingent from the Army, STF and Intelligence Services will be on duty round the clock, he added.

He further stated that a special traffic plan will also be in operation in Kandy throughout the period.
