Computer expert
rejects Opposition's allegations |

The
computer
expert
who was
responsible
for the
final
computer
tabulation
of the
recently
concluded
presidential
election
results
totally
rejected
the
opposition's
claim of
votes
manipulation.
There is
no
possibility
of
altering
computerized
election
results,
Dr.
Ruwan
Weerasinghe,
Head of
Colombo
University
Computer
Division
told the
BBC
Sandeshaya
programme
yesterday.
He said
that the
accuracy
of the
election
results
were
verified
and
crosschecked
several
times by
the
election
officials
and
party
representatives
at the
counting
centers
before
entering
them
into the
computer.
"The
count is
supervised
and
signed
off by
political
party
agents,"
he said.
Dr.
Weerasinghe
totally
rejected
the
opposition's
claim
that
computer
technology
was used
to rig
the
election
results
saying
that
there is
no
possibility
at all
making
any
alternations
to the
results
after
the data
were fed
to the
computer.
