President arrives in Moscow

 
President Mahinda Rajapaksa arrived in Moscow today (February 6) on an official visit to Russia. He is scheduled to will hold discussions with Russian President Dimithri Medvedev on Monday.

The President along with his delegation left the island at 2.48 this morning and arrived in Moscow in the afternoon.

President Rajapaksa is to be awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the Peoples’ Friendship University of the Russian Federation at the 50th anniversary celebrations of the University.

The University by unanimous decision has decided to make the Honorary Doctorate award in recognition of his outstanding contribution towards fostering world peace and for his contribution for the development of comprehensive Sri Lanka – Russia bilateral ties including in the spheres of culture and education.
