Cinnamon production modernized

 
To consolidate Sri Lanka's status of world's top cinnamon supplier, the Export Development Board has taken measures to modernize cinnamon production units by introducing a procedure known as “Good Manufacturing Process” which is hygienic and efficient.

Financial aid and guidance will be provided in modernizing all processing centres.

Three million rupees was granted for the construction and procurement of machinery for processing in selected units in Talduwa, Karandeniya, Telwatta and Kosgoda.

Twenty factories will be modernized in the first phase and new techniques will also be implemented.

Sri Lanka provides 80% of the world's cinnamon requirement.
