Record increase in containers handled by Ports Authority

There has been a record increase of 12.5% in the containers handled by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority recorded in December.

In December 2008, 136,268 containers had been handled and increased to 153,317 in December 2009.

The total containers handled by the Colombo Port, has increased by 19.2% which is another record.

With the defeat of terrorism in May, the northern entrance of the harbour was opened on the directive of President Mahinda Rajapaksa providing easier access to the ships that use the harbour.
