Former Army Commander and Chief of Defence Staff, General (Retd.) Sarath Fonseka was arrested by the Military Police yesterday (February 8) evening.

Major General Prasad Samarasinghe, Military Spokesman and Director, Directorate of Army media said, the arrest was due to certain fraudulent acts and other military offences allegedly committed by him.

Military investigations are in progress and a detailed statement will be issued later, Major General Prasad Samarasinghe said.
