More than 130,000 IDPs resettled

 

The total number of resettled Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Mannar, Vavuniya and Trincomalee as at 04 Feb 2010 is 134,352, stated the Ministry of Disaster Management and Human Rights.

IDPs have gone to the original places in the North and East as well as to the southern and central areas such as Galle, Gampaha, Colombo, Kandy, Badulla and Kurunegala.

Thus, the total number of IDPs remaining to be resettled is 101, 739.

As of 04 Feb, 24,081 IDPs have moved out of welfare centres after 1 Dec, 2009.

According to Ministry sources, the resettled IDPs are provided with necessary items and facilities such as dry rations and family kits, as well as 2 acres of paddy lands.
