Fonseka family has unhindered access to the detainee - Military Spokesman

Military Spokesman, Major General Prasad Samarasinghe said that Mrs. Anoma Fonseka was granted permission to visit her detained husband Gen (retd.) Sarath Fonseka immediately after her request to see him was made.

He said that Fonseka's lawyer, Mr. Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, Member of Parliament also visited the detainee yesterday (February 09).

He said that the media reports that Fonseka was denied medical facilities were incorrect. “The family has been granted unhindered access to the detainee and full medical assistance as per his request. He was treated as a former Army General without any discrimination", Maj Gen Samarasinghe added.

The Military Spokesman said the Sri Lanka Army will decide to hold a trial on the evidence against Fonseka either at a Court Martial or Civil court after the summary of evidence is forwarded to the Attorney General for his advice.
