IDP resettlement accelerates

 

The Government has resettled nearly 1000 IDPs yesterday (11) in the North accelerating the IDP resettlement process.

879 IDPs belonging to 259 families were re-settled in the villages of Kaneigapuram, Muththuvinayagrpuram and Kaththeyamalei in the Mullativu District yesterday.

Resettlement Ministry sources said the Government will re-settle another 2216 persons tomorrow, who are living with their relations in Vavuniya. They will be resettled in Jayanthinagar, Kanagapuram, Periyaparanthen and Thirunagar North and West, and Karachchi, in the Kilinochchi District.

Action has been taken to re-settle more groups of IDPs this month. Accordingly, around 1000 persons living in Menik Farm relief village, belonging to 350 families will be re-settled in Karachchi Division on the 18th.

Another 700 persons will be re-settled in Pachchilaipalli, Palei Town, Thilevalei East and West, and Mulleiyadi on the 20th.
800 IDPs belonging to 230 families will also be re-settled in Kundavalei, Kumarapuram and Umagalpuram on the 23rd.

The government will re-settle nearly 1000 persons belonging to 350 families in Jayanthinagar, Kanagapuram, Periyaparanthen and Thirunagar North and West and Paranthan West in Kilinochchi on 26 February.

Sources said that there are only around 101,000 IDPs remaining in the welfare centers out of which around 25, 000 IDPs have moved out of welfare centers.
