ADB helps road development

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has agreed to provide a loan amounting to US$ 170 million in June 2010 out of which US$130 million will be set aside for the construction of five National Roads and Provincial Roads including Consulting Services for Project Implementation. The ADB has given its concurrence to follow the advance procurement process in order to expedite implementation.

The Government will develop several roads in the North Central Province in order to speed up the process of rehabilitation and improve national highways.

Under this initiative, the roads A-009-Dambulla-Galkulama-1,
A-009-Dambulla-Galkulama-2, B-268-Manipai-Kaithady,
A-032-Navatkuli-Karaitivu, B-437-Vallai-Telippalai-Araly and A-020-Anuradhapura-Rambava will be reconstructed.

These road sections will be improved with two-lane facilities. To ensure streamlined management and efficiency, the project implementation arrangement will be separated in line with the institutional responsibility for respective components – the National Highways and the Provincial Roads.
