China donates
equipment for N & E development |

The
Chinese
Government
has
donated
more
equipment
worth
Rs.285.4
million
for
infrastructure
development
in North
and
East.
China’s
Ambassador,
Yang
Xiuping
handed
over the
donation
via the
Ministry
of
Nation
Building
and
Estate
Infrastructure
Development.
The
donation
was
accepted
by Prime
Minister
Ratnasiri
Wickramanayake.
The
China’s
Ambassador
said it
is an
honour
to hand
over the
gifts to
Sri
Lanka
from her
Government.
Last
week
too, the
Chinese
Government
made a
donation
to Sri
Lanka
for its
development
programmes.
Immediately
after
the end
of the
war,
China
made a
cash
donation
of 100
million
US
Dollars.
Thereafter
6,257
tents
were
donated.
In
addition,
2,000
tents
were
donated
by the
Sichuan
Province.
The
Ambassador
mentioned
that
China
had
helped
and
supported
Sri
Lanka
not only
bilaterally
but
internationally.
She also
recalled
the
support
given by
China to
Sri
Lanka at
the
United
Nations
and in
Geneva.
Speaking
on the
occasion,
Prime
Minister
Ratnasiri
Wickramanayake
said the
friendship
between
the two
countries
will
continue
forever.
The
Prime
Minister
added
that
China is
emerging
as an
economic
giant in
this
part of
the
world.
