The
Plantation
Industries
Ministry
has
taken
action
to
provide
five
coconut
seedlings
for 3.5
million
families
in the
country
with the
aim of
doubling
the
coconut
production
in the
country
by 2015.
Under
this
programme,
10
million
coconut
seedlings
have
already
been
distributed.
Another
10
million
coconut
seedlings
will
also be
distributed
in
Divisional
Secretary’s
Divisions
next
year,
reported
Daily
News.
Action
has also
been
taken to
distribute
coconut
seedlings
among
public
servants
under
the
relevant
project.
Recently,
the
Ministry
provided
1,000
coconut
seedlings
to
employees
of Bank
of
Ceylon
Head
Office
in Kandy,
the
report
said.
Researches
have
identified
these
coconut
seedlings
as high
yielding
varieties.
The
Coconut
Cultivation
Board
provides
instructions
for
cultivation.
