Jaffna Uni to hold first post-war convocation

The Jaffna University is preparing to hold its first post-war graduation ceremony.

The convocation for Graduate and Post Graduate degrees is scheduled to be held on the 26th, 27th and 28th of this month, the university sources said.

The University of Jaffna was first established in 1974, as the Jaffna Campus of the University of Sri Lanka, offering courses in science and humanities. The first batch of 104 students was admitted in October 1974 to provide the opportunities for the Tamil students. Today, it has eight faculties with fifty seven academic departments.

Steps were taken to add an engineering faculty to the Jaffna University and establish its agriculture faculty in Kilinochchi.

The government recently allocated 90 million rupees to upgrade the Jaffna University and its Vavuniya campus to enhance IT education facilities.
