The Maha
Sangha
Convention
that was
to be
held
next
Thursday
(Feb.18)
at the
historic
Maha
Maluwa
of the
Sri
Dalada
Maligawa
has been
postponed
indefinitely,
the
Chief
Prelates
of the
four
sects of
the
Buddhist
clergy
said in
a
statement
in Kandy
yesterday
(Feb.16).
The
Maha
Nayaka
Theras
of the
four
main
sects
said the
decision
to
postpone
the
Convention
was made
taking
into
consideration
the
inconvenience
that
would be
caused
to the
public
who come
to
worship
the Sri
Dalada
Maligawa
as well
as to
the Maha
Sangha.
The
Maha
Nayaka
Theras
also
said
that
from
ancient
times
the Maha
Sangha
had
advised
the
rulers
on good
governance
for the
benefit
of the
people
and at
the
present
times
too they
would
continue
to play
the same
role.
