Nominations accepted from today

 
Accepting nominations for the upcoming General Election will commence today (Feb 19), the Election Commissioner announced.

The accepting of nominations will end by noon on February 26.

So far, 9 independent groups; three groups from Kalutara district, two from the Colombo district, two from Puttalam district, one from Wanni district and one from Gampaha district have placed their deposits for the General Election.

According to sources main political parties are expected to submit their nominations by the end of next week.

The Election Commissioner said it would deploy 300,000 public sector employees for election duty.

This election will be held in accordance with the voter register prepared in 2008.
