The
Sooriyawewa
integrated
community
water
supply
and
sanitation
project
constructed
at
Viharagala,
Sooriyawewa
was
declared
open by
President
Mahinda
Rajapaksa
yesterday
(Feb.
25).
This
project
is
considered
as the
largest
community
water
project
in South
Asia.
The
Rs.90
million
project,
which
was
constructed
by the
Urban
Development
and
Sacred
Area
Development
Ministry,
will
benefit
15,700
persons
of 3000
families
in
Venivelaara,
Mahapelessa,
Viharagala,
Bendigantota,
Alioluaara
and
Beddeveva
West in
Sooriyawewa.
Addressing
the
gathering
at the
occasion,
President
Mahinda
Rajapaksa
said
that the
government
took
over the
responsibility
of
facing
the
challenge
of
achieving
development
goals by
laying
confidence
on the
people’s
strengths.
Thus, in
a very
short
period
the
government
was able
to
fulfill
the
people’s
development
expectations,
he said.
Noting
that the
country
was at a
standstill
due to
terrorism,
the
President
stated
that
with the
end to
terrorism
the
government
was able
to
expand
development
to the
rural
areas
instead
of
limiting
to the
urban.
