More new bridges to East

The Government will soon complete the construction of Pudawikkattu Bridge in the East at a cost of Rs.450 million, funded by the Spanish Government.

The 300 meter long and 10.5 meter wide bridge spanning across the Pudawikkattu lagoon is being constructed on the B 424 road from Trincomalee to Pulmoddai. It will enable civilians to cross the Pudawikkattu lagoon.

The workers are engaged in the final phase of constructing the bridge and this is expected to be opened to the public shortly, the report added.

Work on the new bridge was commenced on June 17, 2007 following the Cabinet Paper submitted by President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The project has been expedited under the directives of the President to improve the market accessibility especially to transport the mineral sand in Pulmoddai to other areas and enable the public transport at a low cost.

Meanwhile, the construction work on the Nochchimotte bridge which is the second largest bridge along the northern railway line between Thandikulam to Kankasanthurai has been completed and is open to public use.
