Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Palitha Kohona was honoured with a Global Citizenship Award by the Orphans International Worldwide (OIWW). The ceremony was held at the Webster Hall in New York recently.
The award recognizes individuals who best personify the global citizenship through their leadership in helping humanity, Colombo Page reported.
Other awardees included African singer Emmanuel Jal, Ambassador and author Sichan Siv, U.S. Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney, Emmy Award winning anchor and reporter Ms. Cindy Hsu, Member of the Parliament of Hellenic Republic Ms Dionesia Avgerinopoulou, Ms Charlotte Brandin of World Childhood Foundation, Dr Judy Kuriansky of Columbia University and Singer Peter Yarrow, the report further said.
Orphans International Worldwide was founded by Jim Luce in 1999 and is associated with the United Nations.
