More aids for IDPs

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore, through the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, donated a consignment worth Rs. 2.5 million for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the North at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today (Mar.4).

In addition to various items required by the IDPs, a consignment of books was also donated to the Jaffna library.

The government is committed to meet the genuine aspirations of the Tamil community, said Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama speaking at the ceremony. He further said that these donations express national unity.

The Foreign Minister, answering questions on reports regarding the attacks by Somali pirates on Saudi tanker in the Gulf of Aden and its abduction, said that the Government is taking appropriate measures to obtain the release of the 13 Sri Lankans in the vessel.

He further said that Sri Lanka hopes to engage in a positive dialogue with the international community in this regard.
