More congratulatory messages poured in from Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Turkmenistan and Romania for President Mahinda Rajapaksa on his re-election as the President of Sri Lanka.
Ukrainian President, Viktor Yushchenko congratulated the President for the Independence Day as well, adding that the re-election is the evidence of high level of President Rajapaksa's popularity and confirmation of the successes that he has reached during the first Presidential cadence in the years of 2005-2010.
“I am confident that your election will contribute to intensification of our traditionally friendly bilateral relations where we have significant potential for further development of mutually beneficial cooperation,” he said.
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, said in his message, “I express a hope that links of cooperation between our countries will develop further for the good of interests and prosperity of our countries”.
“I am sure that, we will continue our mutual efforts to further develop the existing traditional friendly and cooperative relations between our countries. I wish you good health, success in your work and peace and prosperity to our friend nation of Sri Lanka”, said the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Iiham Aliyev in his message.
President of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko stated, “We believe that friendly relations and multilateral cooperation between our countries will further develop” and wished of peace and welfare to the friendly nation of Sri Lanka, in his message.President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguli Berdimukhamedov wished President Rajapaksa "sound health and welfare as well as peace, progress and prosperity to Sri Lanka", in his message.
“I express also my conviction that the relations between our two countries will continue to further develop in the future, for the benefit of our two peoples”, said President of Romania, Traian Basescu in his congratulatory message.
