Through history learn values of peace and brotherhood - President

The person who reads history becomes more aware of the values of peace and brotherhood. People who know history are more peaceful”, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said.

At the inauguration of the Maritime Archaeological Museum in Galle today (04 March) he said that this museum shows the strong relations Sri Lanka had with the rest of the world. “Your children need to gain the maximum benefit from this museum,” President stated.

Even this very moment will be a part of the history. Therefore, we cannot waste any second as every second is valuable. We need to be aware that we all become part of the history some day. What is important is how we are remembered, the President further stated.

President Rajapaksa added, “if we build a stable present, we will be remembered as people who built a sound past. We should be ready to build a courageous, spirited present. Thus, this era will be written in history as a grand era”.

“The best lesson we can learn from the history of our nation is that once you forget the history, we will loose the nation we were born in. Thus, the best way to protect our nation is to teach our history to future generations.

There are two ways to teach humanity to our people. One is to make them spiritual and teach them the beauties of art. The other is to teach them history.
