Indian charity to help SL's amputees

An Indian charity has sent a team to the North to provide 1,000 amputees with artificial limbs.

Members from India's BMVSS charity, which makes the so-called "Jaipur foot", will spend a month in Vavuniya, said the BBC.

The Jaipur foot is regarded as the most inexpensive and cost effective artificial limb in the world.

Thousands of people in the North lost limbs as a result of mines and unexploded ordnance set up by the LTTE.

''The victims require immediate rehabilitation," quoting Charity founder DR Mehta BBC reported.

Five members of the Indian charity team themselves are amputees.
