Safe drinking water to Eastern Province

The Government has taken action to supply safe drinking water to the people living in the Eastern Province.

Under this programme, National Water Supply and Drainage Board expects to provide drinking water to the areas of Uhana, Damana, Hingurana, Irakkamum, Samanthurai, Potuvil, Dehiaththakandiya and Mahaoya.

In addition, it is expected to implement 30 rural water supply schemes by the Eastern Provincial Council. The project will be complementary to the “Negenahira Navodaya” programme.

The Cabinet recently granted approval to a memorandum submitted to enter into a Loan Agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to obtain approximately Rs.6, 130 million for this project.

The project will be implemented jointly by the National Water Supply and Drainage Board and the Eastern Provincial Council.
