UNSG has violated basic UN principles – Prof. Peiris

The Secretary General of the United Nation has violated the basic principles of the United Nation by proposing to appoint a panel of consultation on Sri Lanka, Minister of Export Development and International Trade Prof. G. L. Peiris said yesterday.

Speaking at the weekly Cabinet press briefing the Minister pointed out that this move is wrong in all points of views and the President Mahinda Rajapaksa had strongly protested it. "The UN Human Rights Council lengthily discussed the allegations on violation of human rights by Sri Lanka and they were rejected by a majority vote," Prof. Peiris said.

The Minister said that Sri Lanka could not be ruled according to the needs of a third party and this can be an unfair interference into the internal affairs of Sri Lanka.
