Railway exceeds earning target

The Railway Department had earned an income of over four billion rupees last year which is an increase of 74 million rupees than the set target.

Our target for last year was 3946 million rupees. We were able to earn this amount by leasing Railway land and property, and also from rentals. The Department aims to earn an income of five billion rupees this year, said Railways Commercial Superintendent Wijaya Samarasinghe.

He pointed out that the earnings of the Department in 2008 were 3671 million rupees. In 2009, their target was to earn 3940 million rupees. However, the earnings increased to 4020 million rupees. It is a 10 percent increase against 2008, the Superintendent pointed out.
