The second Court-Martial of former Army Commander General (Rtd.) Sarath Fonseka has been deferred to a future date. The date is yet to be announced.
Fonseka yesterday (16), appeared before the first Court-Martial panel appointed to try him on charges against his participation in political work while in active service.
"General (rtd.) Fonseka appeared before the Court-Martial with his lawyers," Military spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe said.
The Court-Martial presided by Major General H. L. Weeratunga took up three charges separately under the above category in accordance with provisions in the Army Act during hearings.
General (retd.) refused to answer when the charges were read out him by the President of the panel.
The two Courts-Martial are to hear charges pertaining to his offences committed allegedly during his military career.
The first Court-Martial will resume its sittings on April 6.
