Geological experts in Sri Lanka say that there is no impact on Sri Lanka by the shift in earth's axis following the earthquake in Chile.
Officials at the Geological Survey Department confirmed that there is no threat of weather changes or signs of any other natural disasters that can occur in Sri Lanka following the recent change in global weather pattern. "But they are closely monitoring the development in global weather, they said".
According to NASA the massive 8.8 earthquake that struck Chile in February may have changed the entire Earth's rotation and shortened the length of days on our planet.
The quake, the seventh strongest earthquake in recorded history, hit Chile on February 27 and should have shortened the length of an Earth day by 1.26 milliseconds, according to research scientist Richard Gross at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif.
"The Chilean quake shifted enough material to change the mass balance of our entire planet," Gross said.
