The de-mining process is being speedily expedited to facilitate the resettlement of IDPs, stated Major General Prasad Samarasinghe, the Military Spokesman.

Already 183,219 IDPs have been resettled in their own villages after these were totally cleared of landmines. 84,700 are to be resettled, 29,000 have gone out with permission and 54,000 remain in the Camps, quoting the Military Spokesman, MCNS reported.

The either side of the A9, B69, B35 routes from Mullativu and Mannar districts, Kokavil, Kilinochchi and Muhamali to Paranthan have been cleared. 1000 - 1100 engineers are deployed in the de-mining operation, Major General Samarasinghe stated.

In recent times 480 civilians were injured in landmine explosions. Seven NGOs are participating in the de-mining process, MCNS stated.
