Cey-Nor boats for Bangladesh

For the first time the Cey-Nor foundation, managed by the Ministry of Fisheries has entered into a joint venture with a company in Bangladesh to manufacture boats.

The mould to manufacture boats in Bangladesh is now being shipped to Bangladesh, said Chairman of Cey-Nor Foundation, Rohan Jayasinghe.

He said that the Bangladesh fishing industry is not at an advanced stage with most of the fishermen using wooden boats. “Sri Lanka staff will assist the Board of Investment Company in Bangladesh to manufacture fiberglass multi-day 40 feet long boats for the country’s market,” he said.

The Chairman also said that they are looking at similar investment opportunities in other SAARC countries.

Cey-Nor Foundation recently built two boat ambulances to be used in mid sea with a capacity to carry medical staff, equipment and two patients.

The company also introduced the Sashimi boat which is powered by both fuel and a sail enabling fishermen to stay a longer duration in the water.
