The development expectations of people will bear fruit in the near future. The war that was an obstacle to development is now over. The only objective of the government now is the development process and creating a moral society.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa made these statements after commissioning the newly constructed Kekiriyobada Reservoir at Kirama yesterday (31 March).
3437 farming families will benefit from this project and 5535 acres of land can be cultivated. The cost of this project is Rs.445 million.
One of the major river diversion irrigation schemes of the South, Kekiriyobada scheme features a 33 metre high dam. The dam was built using 350,000 cubes of earth by local engineers and Irrigation Department workforce.
President Rajapaksa further stated that the past governments did not have any trust on the country’s agriculture. “They did not have a comprehensive programme to develop agriculture but this government gives high priority to this”.
We gave the people of this country the much needed development. Districts in Sri Lanka, specifically the Hambantota District developed rapidly in the past four years. Development is seen in other districts as well. For example, there is a lot of progress in the Eastern Province. Thus, I believe that dreams of our people will become a reality in the near future, President Rajapaksa further stated.
