Sri Lanka converts plastic waste to petrol

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources commenced the world’s first pilot project to convert plastic waste to petrol yesterday (March 31). The project is located in Yatiyantota.

The method of converting plastic waste to petrol has been discovered by Mr. Ananda Vithanage, who lives in Yatiyantota. Under this method, it costs only Rs.75/- to generate one litre of petrol. Petrol produced here will be provided to the people at a lower price.

5 three- wheelers and 3 motor bikes were provided with petrol produced in the plant yesterday. Villagers will be provided with petrol free of charge during the research period.

The project will largely contribute to reducing environmental pollution.
