The Board of Investment Sri Lanka (BOI) recently opened its new branch in Jaffna making investment opportunities in the Jaffna Peninsula.
The purpose of this office is to promote Jaffna as a new destination for investment and to facilitate projects in the Jaffna peninsula. In view these needs, staff of the office which is located at the Housing Secretariat Building, Kandy Road Jaffna are all Tamil speaking and familiar with the modalities needed for investors to establish projects.
Target sector include fisheries and fish processing, agriculture and agro industries and the service sector such IT and BPOs and manufacturing.
There is already considerable interest overseas from foreign investors to start projects in the Eastern Province especially hotel, IT, and agro processing industries. Similar interest exists for Jaffna.
To make this objective successful, the BOI has developed a dedicated regime of investment incentives for the Northern and Eastern Provinces. What characterizes these tax incentives and other benefits is that they are valid for much longer periods of 10, 15 or 20 years depending on the sector. These apply for projects in the agriculture and agro industries sector, fisheries, training, manufacturing and other important identified areas.
