Korea helps upgrade NVTC in Galle

The Republic of Korea has granted assistance to upgrade the Niyagama National Vocational Training Centre Project in Galle.

The reconstructed centre at a cost of 1.2 billion rupees will be renamed Korea-Sri Lanka Advanced Vocational Training Centre. It will become a leading vocational training centre of excellence.

The project was completed in a record time of 15 months. It involved construction of the main building and workshop building and the remodelling of previously existing buildings.

The total construction cost of the project was funded by the South Korean Import-Export Bank. Under the agreement, Korean systems and advanced technology will be introduced at the centre.

In addition to providing experts and fellowship training, Korea would also supply textbooks and other educational material for 10 trades that are taught at the Centre.
