Fonseka not afflicted with any new condition
- National Hospital chest physician

The Army in response to concerns, expressed on General Sarath Fonseka's health condition made arrangements yesterday (05 April) morning for him to receive consultations from a Senior Chest Physician, attached to the Chest Clinic, Colombo National Hospital in the presence of Medical Officers in attendance at Navy Headquarters where General (Rtd) Sarath Fonseka is detained.

According to the Media Centre for National Security, the chest specialist who attended to Fonseka has however determined that General Fonseka has not been afflicted with any new condition as alleged, and he could still continue with his routine medication.

The move was initiated following allegations being made by Mrs Anoma Fonseka and other spokespersons, referring to an alleged 'deterioration' of General Fonseka's health.

A few days ago, Mrs. Anoma Fonseka, in a letter directed to Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya sought his mediation to get services of a medical specialist to examine General Sarath Fonseka.

The Army regrets deeply over continuing baseless allegations on the medical services, being provided to General Fonseka and earnestly appeals to all concerned parties to refrain from making utterances of defamatory nature that belittle the dignity of medical professionals in the Navy, MCNS said.
