International award for Motor Traffic Dept

The Department of Motor Traffic has won the internationally recognized award Thaiki Akimoto for Quality and Productivity. This is the first time in the history of Sri Lankan Public Service, a government institution has been honoured with an international accolade.

The Japan-Sri Lanka Technical and Cultural Association (JAICA) organized the event for the 14th time. The Thaiki Akimoto award is a world famous international award offered for the best qualitative and productive institutions the world over. The department of Motor Traffic achieved this milestone competing numerous private companies which are popular for excellent service in the island. This was achieved due to the dedication and commitment of the highest ranking officer to the minor worker at the bottom rungs, Daily News reported.

Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said, "When many were accusing our public service for inefficiency we proved we have the ability to compete with the private sector if we have the courage and commitment to take up any challenge.

I am proud to get this international recognition at a time when steps are being taken to make Sri Lanka the pride of Asia. This is a sure sign that we can touch the summit of development if we play our role perfectly," he said.
