The Government has taken action to grant ownership of houses to 20,000 this year through the Housing Authority, based on the Mahinda Chintana: Vision Ahead.

Nearly 91,000 families have been provided with housing facilities through the programmes implemented by the Housing Development Authority countrywide during the four year period from 2006 to 2009.

The total investment made by the Government in the region is 4,127 million rupees. The Government plans to invest 2,261 million rupees this year to build twenty thousand houses.

The Gama Neguma Housing Programme will be implemented covering the entire island, including the North and East.
