The first Police Academy in Sri Lanka will be opened at the Old Police College premises at Katana, Thimbirigaskatuwa in Negombo on April 26.

In order to make the police service more professional, Sri Lanka Police Academy was inducted under the patronage of Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

Police Spokesman S.P Prishantha Jayakody stated that the Police Higher Training Institute has been converted to the Sri Lanka Police Academy to strengthen the personnel in the Police Service to continue their studies and become grandaunts in the field of Police Science.

Hundred recruits such as the Senior Detective Course and Junior Detective Course from the Police Service are due commence their courses on April 26.
