The 14th Parliament will be opened this morning. The newly elected 225 members will be sworn-in before the Speaker who will be elected in the morning.
The most significant feature in the 14th Parliament is that the 225 members will comprise a large number of newly elected members. Altogether 69 newly elected members will be sworn-in as Members of Parliament today. Out of them, 44 have been elected from the UPFA and 20 from the UNP.
Two have been elected newly from the DNA and the rest are from the ITAK.
The Speaker will be elected after the members take their seats in the Well. After the newly elected Speaker is sworn in before Parliament Secretary General, the rest will take oaths before the Speaker. The Deputy Speaker and Chairman of Committees and the Deputy Chairman of Committees will also be elected thereafter.
